Man charged in stabbing wife with scissors
When the officer pulled up to the home in West Valley on May 5, a child met him in the front yard where he told the officer his dad had just killed his mom.
When the officer entered the residence in the 1500 West block of 3395 South, he saw a puddle of blood, then a woman lying behind the front door with numerous stab wounds on her legs, according to an affidavit filed in 3rd District Court.
The woman did not die but told officers at the scene that her husband stabbed her about 20 times with a pair of scissors before leaving the house, the statement said.
Officers found the bloody scissors on a nearby couch and noted that two children witnessed the stabbing, the document said.
Julio Martinez has been charged with attempted murder, a first-degree felony, along with three more felony and three more misdemeanor charges, some of which stem from alleged events before and after the alleged stabbing.
A 7-Eleven cashier told police that Martinez walked into the convenience store, grabbed a pair of scissors "and refused to pay for the merchandise, telling the (cashier) to 'call it in as a robbery.' "
Martinez left but came back later that morning without a shirt and with blood-stained hands, the statements said.
Martinez then allegedly asked the same cashier he took the scissors from earlier to approve $20 in gas or he would kill him.
The cashier didn't approve it, and Martinez walked out into the parking lot where an officer noticed him. When Martinez didn't comply with an order to stop approaching the officer "in a threatening manner," the officer Tasered him, then arrested and booked Martinez, 31, into jail where he is being held on $500,000 bail.
The stabbing occurred while Martinez was awaiting sentencing on a felony drug case.
