Several students in the Canyons School District are Award of Excellence winners in the 2009 National PTA Reflections contest.
The students are:
Monika Kowalski, seventh grade, Butler Middle School, visual arts
Julia Fu, second grade, Ridge Crest Elementary School, music
Amelia Slama Catron, second grade, Alta View Elementary School, literature
Only three students in each age group are honored with Awards of Excellence for their entries in dance choreography, film production, literature, musical composition, photography and visual arts.
The Reflections program, which encourages students to create original works of art, was founded in 1969 by the national PTA.
The Canyons District Board and the Region 17 PTA hosted an open house Tuesday to honor the 63 regional Reflections contest winners, including the three national honorees.
