A forgotten pan on a hot stove caused a fire that destroyed a mobile home in Taylorsville.
Capt. Clint Smith, a spokesman for the Unified Fire Authority, said residents of the home apparently left on a burner on the stove when they left the mobile home. Neighbors in the Majestic Meadows Mobile Home Park, 1000 W. Pasque Drive, noticed smoke and flames billowing from the home and alerted fire crews about 3:15 p.m. on Saturday.
When crews arrived, the smoke emanating from the home was heavy and the call was upgraded to a two-alarm fire. Smith said the mobile home will likely be listed as a total loss. He estimated the damages totaled around $90,000.
"This is one of those things that remind us to be safe in our house," Smith said.
No injuries were reported, and the damage was contained to the mobile home in which the fire originated.
