A day earlier, Kury Reynolds had shot a 79 in the pro-am at the TNT Auction Rose Park Open golf tournament. Still, Reynolds didn't feel too bad about his game, considering 13 of his strokes came on one hole where he lost three balls and looked like your average everyday hacker.
Saturday was a different story as Reynolds fired a 9-under-par 63 with nothing worse than a 4 on his scorecard and beat amateurs Robbie Fillmore and Devin Purser by three strokes at Rose Park Golf Course. The next best professionals were Todd Meyer, Brad Stone and Chris Moody at 67.
The 39-year-old Reynolds has won nearly every professional golf tournament in Utah during his 20-year professional career, which included nearly a decade playing out of state. Despite finishing second a couple of times, he had never won the Rose Park event.
After sinking a 40-foot putt for eagle at the par-5 No. 2 hole, Reynolds knew it was his day.
"The hole looked like the size of a basketball after that," Reynolds said.
He added a 25-foot par putt at No. 5 giving him five 3's to start his round. He was 6-under going into No. 14 where he got the 13 the day before and knew if he could find his drive this time, he would likely win the tournament.
He did and made birdie and added birdies at 16 and 18 for his 9-under round. Reynolds is a teaching pro at Mick Riley Golf Course after most recently working for the Utah Section PGA. He collected $1,650 for the victory.
Paul Mora, Matthew Rodd, Allan Thomas and Ryan Nickle tied for low honors in the A Flight, while George Shoell won the B Flight with a 75.
