Real Salt Lake defender David Horst will have surgery today to repair a meniscus tear in his right knee a team spokesperson confirmed. He'll be out 4 to 6 weeks.
Horst has played in two games for RSL this year, including the final 21 minutes of Wednesday's 2-2 draw against the L.A. Galaxy after replacing an injured Nat Borchers. Horst didn't complain of any pain following the match, but he began to notice swelling and pain on Thursday.
Horst's injury leaves RSL a bit thin at center back heading into this weekend's game at Chivas USA. The ankle Borchers sprained late in Wednesday's match is the same foot he had offseason surgery on, and he's listed as questionable for this weekend.
Robbie Russell and Jamison Olave should get the starting nod at center back against Chivas. Rookie Jean Alexandre, who the team is grooming for a holding midfield role, is RSL's fifth option at center back.
