Billy Burgess had 10 hits over the weekend, including three in each of the three UVU wins. Combined with the two mid-week games, Burgess hit .615 (16-for-26) with three home runs and 18 RBI on his way to being named the Great West Player of the Week and to the College Baseball Foundation's National All-Star Lineup.

Goose Kallunki had the best weekend of his freshman season, going 10-for-15 with his first career home run over the final three games. Chris Benson, who has a nine-game hitting streak, also had 10 hits.

Justin Smith was 2-0 with a 1.93 ERA, earning wins over BYU and Northern Colorado to earn the Great West Pitcher of the Week award.

Dallas Baptist is 32-13 after dropping two out of three at No. 14 Texas A&M.. The Patriots swept a three-game series from the Wolverines in Orem in Mid-April.

DBU is among the national leaders with a team batting average of .349 and 86 home runs. The Patriots hit 14 against UVU in Orem, including five by Ryan Goins, who has 18 on the year.

UVU will cap its 2009 season with a four-game series at Hawaii beginning May 14.

SOFTBALL: Senior second baseman Magan Niemann was named to the 2009 Division I Softball All Independent First Team while sophomore outfielder Meghan Woodworth was selected to the Second Team which was announced Wednesday.

UVU junior third baseman Jessica Anderson, junior outfielder/pitcher Amber Sackett, and senior catcher/outfielder Kylee Steadman were all recognized as Honorable Mention selections.

"I am happy for all the girls, they worked hard and deserve any recognition they receive," UVU head softball coach Todd Fairbourne said. "Niemann is very deserving of the first team honor. Along with Steadman she was are most consistent producer all year. No surprise with Woodworth either as she made a name for herself last year as the Freshman of the Year."

UTAH STATE

TRACK AND FIELD: Utah State men's and women's track and field teams sent a handful of athletes to the Utah Twilight Invitational meet hosted by the University of Utah on Tuesday. Sophomores James Allred (800 meters) and Clint Silcock (high jump) both had NCAA regional qualifying marks. Silcock joined USU women athletes who won event at the meet, including junior Ashlee Cannon (100-meter hurdles), sophomore Maria Halton (200 meters) and the Aggies' 4x100-meter relay team.
