He came in seventh place at the Baylor Intercollegiate at 3-over-par after posting a fall season round-low 69 in the second round, following up with a ninth-place finish at the Pacific Invitational. Johnson scored collegiate career-low rounds of 68 in the opening rounds of the John A. Burns Invitational and the USC Intercollegiate, along with the first and third rounds of the Cougar Classic. At the USC tourney, he finished in fifth place overall at 4-under-par. His best finish of the year came at the Cougar Classic with a second-place performance at 10-under-par, helping the team to its first victory of the year.

Fillmore, a junior from Salt Lake City, had the team's second-best stroke average and also enjoyed a strong season in which he led the Cougars in three of four fall tournaments by placing 20th at the William H. Tucker Intercollegiate, third at the Husky Invitational and ninth at the Pacific Invitational. He scored round lows of 70 in the first and third rounds of the Husky Invitational and in the second round of the Pacific Invitational.

In the spring tournaments, Fillmore had strong performances at the USC Intercollegiate, where he placed 10th overall at even-par, and was 14th overall at the Fresno Lexus Classic at 2-over-par. He came in 16th at the PING Cougar Classic at 1-under-par and then tied for 7th overall at the MWC Championships in Tuscon.

New Mexico and San Diego State will compete as teams at the West Regional with Johnson and Fillmore. Colorado State will play in New Jersey, while UNLV will compete in Austin, Texas. TCU will play in Stillwater, Okla., where Air Force's Tom Whitney will compete as an individual.

SOFTBALL: The 2009 Mountain West Conference champion BYU softball team (37-15, 10-1) is set to close the regular season with three games at Miller Park starting Thursday.

The Cougars will host New Mexico on Thursday at 7 p.m. before facing Colorado State at 7 p.m. on Friday and 2 p.m. on Saturday.

Following Saturday's contest, the Cougars will be honored for their MWC championship and the two seniors, Monica Gonzales and Stephanie Hopkins, will be recognized for their accomplishments on the field during their four seasons at BYU.

New Mexico ranks fifth in the conference at 3-9 and 12-33 overall. The Cougars defeated the Lobos 13-4 and 10-3 earlier this season.

Colorado State is fourth in the conference at 5-6 and 24-23 overall. The Rams fell to the Cougars 10-0 as Christie Zinanti threw a two-hit shutout and BYU hit three homers in Fort Collins, Colo., earlier this season.

Following the completion of the regular season, BYU will receive an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament due to winning the MWC title. NCAA Regional opponents, date and location will be announced on Sunday at 8 p.m. on ESPNU.

UTAH

TRACK AND FIELD: The University of Utah women's track and field team hosted the Utah Twilight Invitational meet on Tuesday afternoon at the Tally Stevens Outdoor Track Complex, where the Utes posted two more NCAA West Regional qualifying marks in the 4x400-meter relay and the 400-meter hurdles in their only home meet of the season.
