Payne and Walker led the way for the Cougars once again by finishing first and second in the 400-meter hurdles, improving their already regional qualified marks. Payne finished first in 51.31 while Walker took second in 51.74, both season-best marks. Nate Page and Rob Skidmore followed in third and fourth, with respective times of 52.55 and 53.23, for another top-four sweep for BYU.

In the long jump, Anse Myller DeArujo placed second with a leap of 22 feet, 1.75 inches, while Brett Birkeland came in third at 21 feet, 8.75 inches.

A solid performance by two athletes generated two lifetime-best marks in the triple jump. In first place, Aaron Powell landed a distance of 49 feet, 10.75 inches, while Kyle Mills cleared a distance of 47 feet, 10.50 inches.

Topping off the successful meet for the Cougars, the javelin landed the final sweep with the top three spots going to BYU. In first place, Blaine Baker finished with a throw of 214 feet, 8.75 inches, while Sean Richardson and Spencer Fausett came in second and third, respectively, with marks of 201 feet, 10.50 inches and 189 feet, 6 inches.

On the women's side, the No. 12 nationally ranked Cougars added another regional qualifying mark and several personal bests in Salt Lake City.

"Our athletes competed well today," said BYU women's track and field head coach Craig Poole. "We had a couple impressive performances and earned another regional qualifying mark.""

Diane Stewart, a sophomore from Spanish Fork, earned an NCAA regional qualifying mark in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:00.22. Stewart also had an impressive third-place finish in the 100-meter hurdles (14.33). Samantha Thayne took second in the 400-meter dash with a personal-best time of 56.56.

Rebecca Lee-Gorden earned first in the javelin throw (133-1.71), while Tiana Ili took first among collegiate participants in the shot put (45-5.25).

In the triple jump, Kelly Markroft took first with a personal-best jump of 37-6.75. Ada Robinson added another personal best to the Cougars' success with a second-place finish in the triple jump (36-10.25).

Also taking second was Emily Dunn, who finished the 800 meters in 2:13.00. Following close behind in the same event was Ashlee Thomas, who took third with a time of 2:13.22.
