A new CD released by Covenant Communications, \"An Angel to Watch Over Me,\" gave several Mormon musicians the opportunity to honor their mothers — just in time for Mother's Day.In the song \"The Quilt,\" Jeff Hinton of Joshua Creek pays tribute to his mother's love of knitting, crocheting and tying quilts. It's about the patches made from his pajamas, his mother's wedding gown and his father's sports jersey, among other colorful squares.Hinton's mother had three boys involved in sports and would bring her projects to the games.\"Over the years, she has made dozens — if not hundreds — of items that have become family treasures,\" he said.Cori Conners remembers the little songs her mother would make up when they were doing laundry together, \"silly little lyrics\" that included: \"This one's blue but this one's black. I think we'll put this one back. Lay them in a little stack. Let's keep folding.\"Conners' song \"Broken\" describes her mother's knack for putting things back together. It includes elements from a magazine story about repairing priceless antiques and a talk given at one time by Elder Jeffrey R. Holland, who was her husband's institute teacher at Yale University.\"My mother taught me that something broken (like an antique vase or a damaged soul) is well worth putting back together,\" Conners said. \"Those thoughts, along with Elder Holland's talk, incubated into this song.\"Lauri Carrigan sings \"Thinking of You\" for her mother, whom she said taught her to love music.James Loynes sings the title song, written by Sally DeFord, which is also included as a bonus track sung by Colleen Thliveris.Lyndsi Houskeeper's song \"No Greater Joy\" was written for her baby daughter. She describes her mother as a beautiful example of the kind of mother she wants to be for her children.Other artists include Briette Peterson, who wrote an original song (\"I've Waited All My Life\") for the CD, as did David Blasucci (\"The End of the Trail\"), Jesse Thurgood (\"Angels Fly\") and Jenny Frogley (\"Because of You\").Jessie Clark Funk performs \"See Things My Way,\" a number written by Jeannine Lasky, Tyler Castleton and Julia Audretch.Lynne Perry Christofferson sings a sweet number about her little flock of children in \"Keeping Sheep.\"See www.covenant-LDS.com for more information.
