OGDEN — Weber County has confirmed its first case of swine flu, after the Weber-Morgan Health Department received confirmation that one of its two existing "probable cases" tested positive for the influenza A H1N1 virus.

"Fortunately, this individual experienced a mild case of influenza and has now fully recovered," said Gary House, director of the Weber-Morgan Health Department. "Ongoing investigations have indicated that no additional exposure or contacts were identified with this case."

With the confirmation coming from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the Utah Health Department, the Weber-Morgan Health Department is urging local residents to practice preventive measures, including common sense and social distancing.

The individual with the confirmed diagnosis is a 71-year-old retired Weber County man, who sought medical attention after returning from a trip to Mexico. He was instructed by his physician to stay secluded at home during recovery.

The second probable case — apparently unrelated to the first — is still awaiting testing results.
