No. 3 seeded Dixie State (36-10) will play on Friday at 3:30 PM (MST) against CCAA conference tournament champion No. 6 Cal State Monterey Bay (36-25)... No. 2 Hawaii Pacific (35-9) will open up at 1 PM against No. 7 UC San Diego (29-21). Humboldt State University (34-17) awarded as the No. 1 seed and the other West Region host. Hawaii Pacific moved up to No. 2 in the West with Cal State Stanislaus coming in as the No. 4 seed. Montana State Billings, Cal State Monterey Bay, UC San Diego and Sonoma State round out the final eight spots awarded.

Each regional will feature two four-team pods playing double-elimination with the winners advancing to the Super Regional's for a best-of-three series...

It is in its first year of eligibility for postseason play. The softball team is the first to host and the second team in school history, just a week behind the golf team, to receive an invitation to NCAA postseason play.

UTAH STATE

MEN'S GOLF: Tyler Labrum has been named the Utah State Student-Athlete of the Week, which is voted on by a state media panel, for the period ending on Sunday, May 3.

Labrum, a senior from Roosevelt, Utah (Union HS) finished tied for ninth individually with a four-over par 220 at the 2009 Western Athletic Conference Golf Championship held in Las Vegas, Nev., last week. Labrum began the tournament by tying his collegiate low round with a 69, and then had rounds of 77 and 74 for his best individual finish of the season. He also helped Utah State finish fourth as a team, which is its best conference finish since placing fourth at the 1997 Big West Championship.

UTAH VALLEY

BASEBALL: A pair of Utah Valley players picked up the Great West baseball Player and Pitcher of the week honors, the conference office announced on Monday. Billy Burgess had 16 hits and drove in 18 runs in six games last week to be named Player of the Week, while Justin Smith picked up two victories on the mound for the Wolverines to earn Pitcher of the Week.

Burgess, a freshman from Alpine, was an incredible 16-for-26 (.615) at the plate with three home runs, four doubles, 18 RBI and nine runs scored.. He hit safely in all six games last week and had multi-hit and multi-RBI games in five of them.

Burges had his biggest game against rival BYU with a grand slam and five RBI in a 7-2 Utah Valley victory. He finished off the week strong with three hits in each of the final three games of the Northern Colorado series (all wins), going 9-for-13 with 10 RBI. For the season, Burgess, who is batting ..393, is 4-for-4 with the bases loaded with three grand slams and 14 RBI.
