Industrial accident kills a man in Sigurd

SIGURD, Sevier County (AP) — Police say a Sevier County man was killed in an industrial accident at the trucking company where he worked when a waste-oil holding tank exploded and hit him in the head.

Sevier County sheriff's detective Nathan Curtis said Cody L. Mickelsen, 32, was killed on Monday.

Curtis said Mickelsen reached down to adjust a valve on a used-oil storage tank. He said the contents were pressurized to move oil from one tank to another and the tank apparently wasn't strong enough to withstand the pressure.

2 men, auto sought after S.L. carjacking

Salt Lake police continued looking Friday for two men and a vehicle taken in a carjacking Thursday night.

Just before 9 p.m., a 23-year-old woman was getting into her car near 1000 North and 500 West when she was approached from behind by two men, said Salt Lake police spokeswoman Lara Jones.

One man grabbed the woman around the neck and put a knife to her back while the other took her keys and started her car, Jones said. The woman was then pushed to the ground and the two thieves drove away in her car.

The woman was not seriously injured and refused medical attention. She did not get a good look at the men because they stood behind her most of the time.

Investigators were looking Friday for a white 2007 Honda Accord with Utah license plate 035PLV.

Man facing charges in high-speed chase

OGDEN — One man was arrested and is now facing possible federal charges following a high-speed chase and an arrest on drug charges.

The incident began about 10:45 p.m. Tuesday near 1300 East and 2100 South where members of the Salt Lake Metro Gang Unit had received a tip about a possible gang member from Ogden in the area. The gang unit had set up surveillance on their target when the man spotted a marked Utah Highway Patrol vehicle and was "spooked," said Salt Lake County Sheriff's Lt. Don Hutson.

The man and a passenger sped away. As they were leaving the area, they threw two handguns and a large quantity of methamphetamine out the window, which were recovered by investigators, Hutson said.

Utah Highway Patrol troopers spotted the car near 3300 S. State, and the driver then drove onto I-15. The chase proceeded north at speeds approaching 115 miles per hour, said UHP trooper Cameron Roden. The car turned off its lights and continued speeding in the dark.
