Guard Matt Pinegar, who was a redshirt freshman for the BYU men's basketball team last season, will not return to the Cougars next year.
Pinegar, from Timpview High, missed most of the year with a sports hernia and played only 41 minutes in nine games, making one field goal on six attempts. Team officials say Pinegar will remain in school and finish his education at BYU.
His departure gives the Cougars one more scholarship to work with during the offseason. Earlier this week, they offered their other available scholarship to Salt Lake Community College forward Logan Magnusson, who accepted the offer and is expected to sign his official letter of intent with BYU any day.
