Extras: widescreen, deleted scenes, audio commentary, featurettes, trailers

"Dark Matter" (Screen Media, 2008; R for violence, language, sex; $24.98). This muddled, self-important exploration of a young genius stifled by the university structure who goes into meltdown with tragic consequences gets a boost from supporting players Meryl Streep and Aidan Quinn — but it's definitely a mixed bag, exploring both jealousy in academia and campus shootings that have become all too prevalent.

Extras: widescreen

"Into the Blue 2: The Reef" (Fox, 2009, $26.98). This sequel to the 2005 film with Jessica Alba and Paul Walker is a by-the-numbers, straight-to-video yarn with lower-tier actors about beautiful surfers who cross the wrong folks when they stumble across underwater booty.

Extras: widescreen, featurettes, music video

Story continues below

"Fight Night" (Peace Arch, 2007; R for violence, language, sex, nudity; $29.99). This is sort of a distaff version of the old Charles Bronson-James Coburn flick "Hard Times," this time with a woman as the street fighter who has bare-knuckle fisticuffs with men in underground bouts.

Extras: widescreen, deleted scenes, audio commentary, trailer

"Cargo 200" (Disinformation, 2007, $24.95). This Russian film is a gruesome, stomach-wrenching thriller allegedly based on a true story, circa 1984, as the Soviet era unwinds. The plot has to do with a local chief of police who brutalizes a young woman who's in the wrong place at the wrong time. (Not rated but with excessive violence, gore, nudity, drugs.)

Extras: widescreen, in Russian with English subtitles
