A little more than a week after acquiring defender Kyle Davies in the MLS lottery, Real Salt Lake parted ways with the Under-20 National Team captain by trading him to FC Dallas in exchange for a 2010 MLS SuperDraft second-round pick.
"We needed to open a roster spot for the arrival of Fabian Espindola ahead of our May 6 match against the Los Angeles Galaxy," said RSL general manager Garth Lagerwey, in a news release. "This trade allows us to get something of value in return for Kyle, a player with a lot of potential."
Davies had three training sessions with RSL last week, prior to the team's 6-0 victory over New England on Saturday.
He was not part of that 18-man game-day roster, despite officially being added to the team on Friday before the match.
The acquisition of Davies and Espindola in roughly the same week pushed RSL's roster size to 25, one over the league maximum.
Lagerwey said the team was actively exploring trade options in hopes of not having to release anyone on its current roster.
