Oscar Mayer Deli Creations Focaccia Sandwiches. Tuscan-Style Chicken, Parmesan Basil Turkey, Steakhouse Beef and Pepper Jack, and Bistro Ham and Provolone. $3.29 per 5.5-ounce to 5.75-ounce refrigerated sandwich.
Bonnie: Duty called me to test these new Focaccia Sandwiches from Deli Creations, even after not liking that same brand's Flatbread Sandwiches at all.
Happily, these are a lot more like the original Deli Creations, with bread that amazingly emerges still soft after being microwaved. I like the flavor of the Bistro Ham and Provolone the best, and the Steakhouse Beef and Pepper Jack the least because of its chunks of weird meat.
Knowing that the enclosed dressings were high in fat, I used only a dab, along with my own naturally fat-free mustard. I suggest you do the same, both for better flavor and to save about 100 fat calories.
Oscar Mayer deserves kudos for putting cooking instructions in two places: one on the back of the package, which ends up facedown in the microwave, and the other on the flap that you rip off before microwaving.
Carolyn: The latest line of Deli Creations hot sandwiches from Oscar Mayer features focaccia bread, and that bread is the best thing about it. It contains olive oil and rosemary you can see and taste, and it emerges from the microwave soft and flavorful. I also like the way the cheese melts to gooey deliciousness.
That's probably because the cheese comes shredded rather than sliced, which makes the cheese packets messy to open and use. The steak comes in overly salty chunks, and the turkey, chicken and ham have identical textures. And the "sauces" all taste like repackaged salad dressing from Oscar Mayer parent company Kraft. But I would stay away from the overly salty and peppery Steakhouse Beef and the Bistro Ham, because of its acidic Herb Vinaigrette dressing. Otherwise, buy the combo that most appeals to you along with the bag of chips or microwavable soup cup you'll need to make these modest-sized sandwiches a lunch rather than a snack.
Quaker True Delights Granola Bars. Toasted Coconut Banana Macadamia Nut, Dark Chocolate Raspberry Almond, and Honey Roasted Cashew Mixed Berry. $3.49 per box of five 1.2-ounce bars.
Bonnie: If I could judge a food product by its cover, these new True Delights would be a winner. The dark chocolate-colored box, featuring a photo of perfect-looking raspberries and a chunk of dark chocolate, almost had me drooling.
