SILVER SUMMIT, Summit County — A Kamas man convicted in connection with a road-rage incident in which he was accused of trying to run bicyclists off of a road has been sentenced to 30 days in jail.
A judge suspended Alexander Jason Barto's prison sentence for his conviction of aggravated assault, a third-degree felony. Instead, Barto, 41, was ordered to perform 50 hours of community service, pay a fine, take an anger management class and remain on probation for 36 months — in addition to the month in jail.
On Aug. 2, Shane Dunleavy said he was run off the road while participating in a race along the Mirror Lake Scenic Byway. Other cyclists accused Barto of trying to run them off the road.
Dunleavy told the Deseret News last year "(Barto) screamed at us that we didn't belong on the road." Dunleavy suffered road rash, bruises and minor cuts. His bicycle was destroyed.
