Utah Preservation Conference

In addition to the historic home tour in the Yalecrest area, the Utah Heritage Foundation's Utah Preservation Conference, which runs from Thursday through Saturday, offers educational sessions for community leaders, contractors, planners and others who are interested in saving historic places.

The conference will kick off Thursday at 5:30 p.m. with a presentation by Charles Phoenix, also known as the "Kodachrome King." The free program, which will be held in the Salt Lake Public Library auditorium, will feature Phoenix's "Retro Vacation Slide Show Tour of the USA." Phoenix is known for his love of mid-century design and culture in America, as well as his lively shows. "He has a unique ability to point out the hysterical and historical, the ironic and iconic," said Kirk Huffaker, executive director of the Utah Heritage Foundation.

The foundation will present its annual Heritage Awards at a luncheon on Friday at the Fort Douglas Officer Club.

This year's honorees are:

Park City Historical Society & Museum for the Old City Hall and Library Building.

Alison and Chris Anderson for the Judge Jacob Johnson House, Spring City.

City of Ephraim for the Ephraim Carnegie Library.

Frank Boyden for the Boyden Block Building, Coalville.
