DRAPER — Call it a smokin' workout or another way to burn some calories.
A treadmill caught fire in a Draper family's basement after one man's workout Saturday evening.
The man went upstairs after his run, but the machine caught fire, filling the first two floors of the home with smoke. Smoke alarms in the home went off and the man grabbed a fire extinguisher and put the fire out, said Unified Fire Authority Capt. Sandy Storms.
When firefighters arrived, the man met them at the door, Storms said.
Firefighters verified the fire was out and cleared smoke from the home so the six-member family could stay there.
Storms estimated that the home may have some lingering smoke damage from the fire, but no one was injured, thanks to the man's actions and having a fire extinguisher handy.
