PROVO (AP) — Provo will get more than $700,000 in federal stimulus funds to curb homelessness.
The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development plans to hand out the money this summer as part of $1.5 billion to combat homelessness.
The money is intended to temporarily help those that can't cover their rent or utilities and to find housing for those who have been evicted.
Paul Glauser, director of the Provo Redevelopment Agency, says the money can't used for those who are chronically homeless because of substance abuse problems.
Provo city officials have until May 18 to develop a plan for the money.
Glauser says it will likely go to two private agencies in town that provide low-income services.
