Paranoid legislation
Why does Congressman Jim Matheson, at the bidding of Nancy Pelosi and Henry Waxman, refuse to even acknowledge the public outcry over the CPSIA — a paranoid piece of child-safety legislation? The CPSIA legislates lead out of all children's products, regardless of the risk of exposure or cost. Never mind there's no evidence the regulation will actually increase child safety.
This law has had billions of dollars of unintended consequences for business, manufacturers, thrift stores and American families. Sen. Robert Bennett wisely realizes it's possible to protect children and save businesses from billions of dollars of needless expenditures.
