COLUMBUS, Ohio — Brian McBride and Gonzalo Segares scored in the final four minutes to help the Chicago Fire salvage a 2-2 tie against the Columbus Crew on Saturday.
McBride pulled Chicago (2-0-4) within a goal in the 86th minute when the veteran striker scored on a header. Two minutes later, a left-footed strike from Segares evened the game and extended the record for a worst start by a defending MLS Cup champion at 0-2-4.
Chad Marshall and Jaime Moreno scored for Columbus, which was forced to play a man down after defender Gino Padula was shown a straight red card by referee Jair Marrufo for his contact with Fire midfielder Cuauhtemoc Blanco near midfield in the 57th minute.
GALAXY 1, RAPIDS 1: At Commerce City, Colo., Landon Donovan's goal in the 82nd minute helped the Los Angeles Galaxy salvage a 1-1 tie with the Rapids in chilly Colorado. Donovan took advantage of a Rapids defensive lapse for the Galaxy (0-1-4), who have still yet to win a game this season.
Colin Clark scored Colorado's lone goal in the 60th minute when he took a pass from Omar Cummings. Clark used his left foot to beat Galaxy defender Todd Dunivant and slot the ball past goalkeeper Donovan Ricketts.
The Rapids (2-2-2) dominated the match, but could not convert opportunities aside from Clark's goal.
SOUNDERS 2, EARTHQUAKES 0: At Seattle, Kasey Keller returned from a one-game red-card suspension to post his fourth straight shutout and set an MLS record as the Sounders FC beat San Jose.
Keller hasn't allowed a goal in 389 minutes to start the season, surpassing the old record of 375 set in 2007 by New York's Ronald Waterreus.
Steve Zakuani and Brad Evans scored for Seattle.
The Sounders (4-2-0) halted a two-game losing streak while San Jose (1-3-2) is winless in its last four games. Keller was given a red card and ejected in Seattle's 1-0 loss to Kansas City on April 11 with the game scoreless. He then served his one-game suspension in Seattle's 2-0 defeat to Chivas USA on April 18.
CHIVAS USA 2, FC DALLAS 0: At Carson, Calif., Atiba Harris scored in the 68th minute as CD Chivas USA beat FC Dallas.
Alecko Eskandarian scored in second-half stoppage time to give Chivas the final two-goal cushion.
Chivas, who now have a league-high five wins this season, played most of the final 65 minutes with an 11-on-10 advantage as FC Dallas goalkeeper Dario Sala was sent off midway through the first half. Harris, though, picked up his second yellow card in the 89th minute and also was ejected.
