Amnesty for illegal immigrants is the goal of a "hate America, anti-Christian, open borders cabal" made up of "hundreds of wealthy tax-exempt foundations controlled by liberal super-rich elites," according to a resolution proposed Saturday in the Utah County Republican organizing convention.

The full-page resolution, sponsored by district chairman Don Larsen, goes on to say the "cabal" is robbing traditionalists and patriots of their history, leaving them in "nearly impotent dismay."

"Our globalist elites subvert every tradition and ethic that elevates men above beasts," the resolution reads. "In the United States of America an arrogant, godless, white elite champions globalization. There is an intense ongoing battle between good and evil taking place here on earth. One of Satan's top priorities is the destruction of the U.S.A."

The measure was introduced late in the convention after about one-third of delegates had gone home. It was narrowly defeated on the floor.

"If aliens are granted amnesty, they will vote Democrat and it will be the end of the Republican Party," Taylor said while summing up his arguments.

Joel Wright was among the opponents of the resolution, which he called high-tension, hate-filled and religious.

"We are not going to continue being the majority party if we keep pushing Hispanics away," he said.

When Wright asked Latinos amid the delegation to stand, only one man rose. He was applauded.

"We should support the rule of law," Larsen said. "We welcome legal immigrants."
