TACOMA, Wash. — The Tacoma Rainiers avoided a series sweep at the hands of the Bees, as they pounded out 19 hits in a 14-0 rout of Salt Lake on Friday night. Tacoma jumped on Salt Lake starting pitcher Brad Knox for six runs in the first three innings, all of them on home runs. Mike Carp hit a solo shot in the second inning to put the Rainiers out in front and then they broke the game open in the third on a two-run homer by Jeff Clement and a three-run blast by Bryan LaHair.
The Bees managed just five singles as they were shut out for the first time this season. Reggie Willits, Brad Coon, Chris Pettit, Bobby Wilson and Luis Figueroa each had a hit.
