In Spanish Fork's final at bat Brock Duke then got things going with a one-out single to center. Braden Warren followed with a single to left. Alworth struck out the next batter, which brought Lunceford to the dish with two outs. The Dons catcher didn't waste this chance by pulling an inside fastball to the right-center fence to end the game.
"Taggert's not the most gifted of hitters, but what he is is a competitor. He wanted to be in that situation. He wanted to be the one to get that hit," Nelson said.
The Dons (4-0) face American Fork tonight before Wednesday's rematch at Lone Peak. The Knights (1-3) also have two games remaining this week, with a make-up game on Friday at American Fork.
"This is a do-or-die week for everybody. You have to survive this week without getting swept, and we're not going to get swept now," Nelson said.
Only three teams from Region 4 advance to the state tournament. Currently, Spanish Fork and Timpanogos are in good shape to get two of those spots. Lone Peak, American Fork, Pleasant Grove and Lehi are in a close battle for that final berth.
