Archaeology exhibit starts today at BYU
An exploration of the changes to the archaeological ruins in east-central Arizona will be on exhibit at Brigham Young University's Museum of Peoples and Cultures beginning Wednesday, April 22.
When a 24-year drought plagued the southwest in the late 1200s, communities dependent on rain for farming were devastated. Many people abandoned their homes and moved south in search of a place with permanent water sources and regular rainfall. They landed in Fourmile Ruin, near a stream, where they built up the community.
According to museum promotions director Erika Riggs, "New Lives: Building Community at Fourmile Ruin," is timely in this period of crisis as it explores ways that a people came out of hardship and created a strong community.
The exhibit is free and open to the public from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, and until 7 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays.
The museum is located at 700 N. 100 East, Provo. More information can be found online at mpc.byu.edu.
