MILFORD, Beaver County — Milford Valley in south-central Utah has been designated as the state's first Renewable Energy Zone.
Utah Gov. Jon Huntsman on Monday visited Milford for a ceremonial signing of bills to provide economic-development incentives for alternative-energy projects and create the Utah Generated Renewable Energy Electricity Network Authority.
Huntsman says Utah has the potential to be a leader in the renewable-energy sector.
Members of the governor's Utah Renewable Energy Zone Task Force, which aims to promote renewable-energy resources to meet 20 percent of Utah's electricity needs by 2025, took a tour Monday of a 203-megawatt wind-corridor project, a geothermal plant and a solar-powered home in Parowan belonging to state Sen. Dennis Stowell.
