MARRIOTT-SLATERVILLE — A Weber County man was killed Friday night when his car ran a red light and struck an SUV in an intersection.

Scott Slater, 51, a resident of Marriott-Slaterville, was traveling eastbound on Pioneer Road in a Chevy Cobalt and driving faster than the posted speed of 50 mph, said Weber County Sheriff's Lt. Matthew Bell. The Cobalt passed through the intersection at 200 South around 9 p.m., striking a Lincoln Navigator that was traveling south and carrying four women between the ages of 18 and 20.

The impact ejected one woman from the Navigator, but Bell said the injuries to the women were minor. He expected they would be released from the hospital Saturday. Two of the women had been wearing seat belts.

Slater was pronounced dead at the scene, and it was unclear if he was wearing a seat belt. Drugs or alcohol were not factors in the accident, Bell said.
