OREM (AP) — An off-duty police officer taking his family to a movie theater diverted them onto a suspected motorcycle thief instead.
Sgt. Randy Crowther says his plans changed when he recognized a motorcycle he knew to be stolen in a parking lot Thursday.
Crowther followed the motorcyclist to his garage, where the man closed the door and refused to let police inside.
Police got a search warrant and say they also recovered two stolen vehicles, a 1996 Lexus and a 2000 Infiniti.
Tony Brad Burnham, 32, was booked in jail on suspicion of possession of stolen property and evading police, plus outstanding warrants.
Crowther said he had a roadside encounter with Burnham on April 3, but the man took off on the Honda motorcycle and he decided not to give chase.
