NTSB to examine fatal bus crash in Utah

More than a year after a deadly bus crash in Utah's Four Corners area, the National Transportation Safety Board will meet to discuss findings of an investigation into the cause.

The NTSB has scheduled a meeting April 21 to review the investigation into the Jan. 6, 2008, crash of a 56-passenger motorcoach traveling from Telluride, Colo., to the Phoenix area. The 52 passengers on board were en route home from a ski trip when the bus crashed near Mexican Hat.

"About 4 1/2 hours into the trip, the motorcoach descended a 5.6-percent grade leading to a curve to the left and, after entering the curve, departed to the right side of the roadway and overturned in a 360-degree rollover sequence," the NTSB said in a statement Thursday. "The entire roof of the motorcoach separated from the body, and 51 of the 53 occupants were ejected."

Nine people were killed, 43 others suffered varying injuries.

The NTSB will review the final report, which includes findings, a probable cause and safety recommendations.
