Utah Utes football has questions to answer

This is it, the final week of spring football for the Utah Utes.

"We've got a lot accomplished," said head coach Kyle Whittingham. "I don't think there's any doubt about that."

That's not to say, however, that all the questions have been answered.

And some, he acknowledges, won't be resolved until fall camp.

"I don't think anything will be solidified that's not already solidified in the next practices," said Whittingham.

Headlining the position battles that will continue into the fall is the quarterback competition between Corbin Louks and Terrance Cain.

And that's not all.

Whittingham said Tevita Stevens and Tyler Williams will still be competing for the starting center job, and several players are jockeying for position at defensive tackle.

Kicking will be another area to watch when California prep star Nick Marsh joins the mix this fall.

The Utes did, however, get some positions solidified in the spring.

Whittingham noted that Tony Bergstrom and Zane Taylor have secured the top spots at right tackle and right guard, respectively.

DeVonte Christopher's move from quarterback to receiver is another success.

"He's done a nice job," Whittingham said of the transition.

The Utes, who had their final tackle practice Tuesday, will close out spring ball with the annual Red-White Game on Saturday at Rice-Eccles Stadium. The first snap is set for 1 p.m. Admission and parking are free.

"We're going to make it as competitive of a situation as possible," said Whittingham, whose squad will have a non-tackle practice on Thursday and a walk-through on Friday before the spring finale.

Although several of the solidified starters will be held out of the controlled scrimmage, Whittingham noted it'll be a "great opportunity" for the twos and threes to shine.

The squads won't be divided until today, but Whittingham said it'll be a "true balance." The coaching staffs, he added, have also been divided down the middle.
