Stalled projects: South Salt Lake

The trendy retail and high-end condominium project Market Station stopped completely when developer Steve Aste lost California-based finance partners in 2008. Aste is now looking for financiers elsewhere and continues to be urged on by city officials.

But planned demolition of blighted shops and car dealerships in the area where Market Station was to be are still standing. The high-fashion moniker "SoSaLa" never caught on, and plans for a trolley line from the city into Sugar House are several years out.

Farther south on State Street, the Chinatown development is unchanged since last summer. The property's dilapidated black asphalt is still ringed by chain-link fences, and its developers continue to plan for construction "next month."
