Stalled projects: Murray

Hamlet Homes is moving on a townhome project in Murray that combines office and living space within a single unit. Project plans have changed to allow for small businesses in downstairs areas, said Hamlet CEO and founder Mike Brodsky.

The concept is succeeding in part because Murray is on the urban fringe of the capital city, Brodsky said. It's also near a light-rail line and benefits from a great relationship with city officials, he said.

Brodsky says the demand for other kinds of housing eventually will return, but it may take awhile.

"Now, people are afraid to make any buying decisions," he said.

Delaying big commercial projects is probably the best option for many developers in this market, he predicted.
