Cell phone leads to car burglary arrests
Salt Lake City police arrested a man and a juvenile Wednesday accused of going on an all-night car prowl spree.
The arrests were made even easier by the fact one of the suspects left his cell phone behind in one of the cars police say they burglarized.
Beginning just after midnight Wednesday, Benny Guler, 18, and a juvenile, started breaking into several cars, mainly in the area near 150 West and 1900 South, said Salt Lake police spokeswoman Lara Jones.
During one incident, Guler dropped his cell phone in one of the vehicles he had broken into, police said. The car owner told KSL he discovered the phone and found text messages on it talking about stolen property.
Both suspects were spotted by police and arrested, Jones said.

No charges in SLCC confrontation
The Salt Lake District Attorney's Office has decided not to file charges against a man arrested on investigation of making terroristic threats to staff members at Salt Lake Community College.
Daniel Duane Etherington, 34, was arrested Monday after becoming upset with staff members over a dispute concerning record keeping. Etherington made some comments to the employees and then threatened to sue, said Salt Lake deputy district attorney Alicia Cook.
Etherington had made previous threats to the school, according to the Utah Highway Patrol, including implications that he knew how to use guns.
He was arrested on investigation of making terroristic threats, a 2nd degree felony.
But Cook said prosecutors do not believe what happened rose to that level.
"These facts do not constitute the crime of terroristic threat," she said. "The individual went in on a few different occasions and did make statements in an angry way. They appeared to be driven by frustration."
