Tyranny of courts

Since 1846, marriage in Iowa has been between a man and a woman. On Friday, the Iowa Supreme Court made a new law. In Federalist Paper No. 78, Alexander Hamilton stated, "It can be of no weight to say that the courts, on the pretense of a repugnancy, may substitute their own pleasure to the constitutional intentions of the legislature."

The primary genius of our Constitution and republican form of government lies in the separation of powers. Every citizen, no matter their party or persuasion, should regard with fear and alarm the usurpation of legislative power by courts. History teaches us that this is a dangerous form of tyranny.
