The bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Salt Lake City is scheduled to have surgery Wednesday for prostate cancer.
Diocese spokeswoman Colleen Gudreau says the prognosis for the Rev. John Wester, 58, is good because the cancer was detected early.
Wester's planned surgery was announced in informational bulletins sent to Catholic parishes and schools in the state last week.
Wester was named bishop of the Diocese of Salt Lake City in January 2007.
