One woman needed to be extricated by emergency crews Saturday evening after the car she was riding in collided with another that drove into oncoming traffic on I-15 near Brigham City.

Utah Highway Patrol spokesman Brian Hyer said Sunday that investigators are still trying to determine why a 20-year-old man from Garland, traveling northbound on I-15 near an area known as the "cement plant," drove through the median and into the southbound lanes, where he was struck by another vehicle about 8:45 p.m.

Hyer said the man, and the driver of the other vehicle, both sustained minor injuries in the accident. A 41-year-old woman who was a passenger in the southbound vehicle was trapped after the collision. She was flown to McKay-Dee Hospital Center in Ogden with a broken femur after she was rescued from inside the car.

Hyer said Sunday the woman remained hospitalized in stable condition.
