The search for a state education boss may prove to be quite competitive.
So far the State Office of Education has received 25 applications and numerous inquiries from in-state and out-of-state potential candidates.
State Superintendent Patti Harrington announced her retirement March 6, effective July 1.
Applications will be accepted until April 15, with preliminary screenings finished April 24. Interviews will start May 13 with a final round May 29.
The board plans to announce the new superintendent June 5.
State Board of Education member Denis Morrill, chairman of the search committee, said the position is being advertised nationally.
The board plans to use the same guidelines in the search process as it did five years ago, with a few minor tweaks and updates. Board members also are gathering input on what the public wants in a state education leader.
