I read the My View "Too many LDS are shunning Democrats" and was dismayed. It is a time of strong political feelings, primarily because of the economy, but this is no excuse for racial jokes and political comments in church meetings. Neither party is perfect. I have seen examples with both family and friends where pleasant occasions have turned ugly because of politics.
Both sides need to take care not to offend and not to be offended. This requires personal restraint. I voted for George Bush and subsequently received many negative comments about him, but I refused to be offended. The Apostle Paul suggested that nothing should separate us from the love of God. This certainly includes offense because of politics.
