DVD releases include 'Tale of Despereaux'

The following DVDs will be released Tuesday, unless otherwise specified:

"Bedtime Stories" (Disney, $29.99) — ★★ — Adam Sandler doing silly voices and mugging for the camera.

Special features: Two-disc deluxe version ($32.98) includes digital copy of the film for home-electronics devices, behind-the-scenes mini-documentary, footage cut from theatrical release.

PG (violence, vulgarity, slurs, mild profanity)

"The Day the Earth Stood Still" (Fox, $29.99) — ★1/2 — The remake of the 1951 classic resembles a bad episode of TV's "The X-Files."

Special features: Two-disc edition includes digital copy of the film for home-electronics devices, behind-the-scenes mini-documentary, footage cut from theatrical release; three-disc edition ($34.98) includes wide-screen and full-screen versions of the film.

PG-13 (violence, gore, profanity, drugs)

"Doubt" (Miramax, $29.99) — ★★1/2 — The adaptation of the stage play doesn't meet expectations.

Special features: Three behind-the-scenes mini-documentaries.

PG-13 (violence, slurs, profanity, brief drugs)

"Faith Like Potatoes" (Sony, $24.96) — A drama based on the life of a South African farmer.

Special features: "Faith Bundle" two-pack ($35.95) includes 2006 drama "The Second Chance."

PG (violence, mild profanity, adult themes)

"i.o.u.s.a" (PBS, $24.98) — Documentary feature on the current economic crisis.

PG (adult themes)

"Not Easily Broken" (Sony, $27.96) — ★★ — A marriage-in-crisis melodrama.

Special features: "Faith Bundle" two-pack ($38.95) includes 2005 drama "The Gospel."

PG-13 (vulgarity, profanity, adult themes)

"The Tale of Despereaux" (Universal, $29.98) — ★★1/2 — This animated tale is the best cartoon we've seen in a while.
