After a third consecutive sub-par vocal performance, "American Idol" viewers sent Utahn Megan Joy packing on Wednesday night.
The 23-year-old Sandy woman has struggled in recent weeks. First there was a bout with the flu; then there were two weeks of performances the "Idol" judges severely criticized. On Tuesday, her rendition of "Turn Your Lights Down Low" was called everything from "irritating" to "boring."
On Wednesday, Megan Joy made the mistake of telling Simon Cowell she didn't "really care" about his criticism. He responded in kind, telling her the judges wouldn't even consider using their "save" to give her another chance even before she had a chance to sing her final song.
As a top 10 finalist, Megan Joy will be a part of the "American Idol" tour this summer. And, for now, she told her 2-year-old son, "Baby, I'm coming home."
