Respect all opinions

Opinions, whether our own or ones we disagree with, are not immutable truths. As we see flaws in other points of view, we should be sensible to the fact that our own may be flawed as well. In short, if we wish our own opinions to be respected, we must similarly respect those with which we disagree.

If Dynette Reynolds was "shunned" by LDS people because of her political views (My View, March 31), and remember we have only heard her version of the facts, that would be counter to the respect she deserved. It would also be contrary to an even more basic principle, one that Brigham Young adverted to in some early discourses: It is not our role as individual church members to judge others or make the determination who is a "good" or a "bad" Latter-day Saint.
