The constant flow of statements in the Readers' Forum challenging the science behind "human-caused" global warming is baffling. The most recent was Kenneth Simper (Readers' Forum, March 30) who seems to accept the planet heating as fact, but the causes of warming as only theories.
The same scientists who say they believe the planet is heating at an unprecedented rate are the ones telling us that high concentrations of CO2 are the most likely cause.
Naysayers to "human causes" are primarily those who make money from holding this position, radio talk show hosts who are in the business of selling controversy, businesses who profit from dumping bad stuff into the air and the politicians who are in the pocket of both. A few years ago, the same crowd was telling us that there was no "proven" causality between lung cancer and cigarette smoking because they were riding the tobacco gravy train.
Science is not about absolute facts. It is about making rational judgments based on reasonable and unbiased testing of evidence.
