LOGAN — Junior college transfer quarterback Jeffrey Fischer has signed with the Utah State football team.

Fischer (6-0, 195 pounds from Cerritos College in Norwalk, Calif.) will have two years of eligibility for the Aggies, will enroll in school in May, and will go through summer workouts with USU.

"We want to get the best players that we can in here and signing Jeff solidifies our depth and will create competition at quarterback," Andersen said. "Diondre Borel is our starter as of now, but Jeff will come in here and battle for a spot at the top of the depth chart. He brings veteran experience along with a winning mentality. He has two years of playing and starting experience."

At Cerritos last season, Fischer was 180-of-282 (63.8 percent) for 2,063 yards with 23 touchdowns and four interceptions, leading the Falcons to a 7-4 record, and earning second-team all-National Division Central Conference accolades. He averaged 187.5 ypg with a QB efficiency rating of 149.36, and he also had 71 yards rushing with two TD's.

With Fischer, the Aggies now have six quarterbacks on the depth chart, including two juniors in Fischer and incumbent starter Borel. Joining the juniors will be redshirt-freshmen Exavier Johnson and Robert Fuller, as well as freshman walk-on Adam Eastman, in addition to high school signee Kane Wilson.

Andersen also announced that Utah State will be closing this week's practices to the public, in preparation for this weekend's scrimmage, which will be open. The scrimmage is slated for Saturday, but pending weather could change the scrimmage to either Friday or Monday.
