Up to $1 million is available in stimulus funding from the Environmental Protection Agency to help agricultural-oriented interests reduce diesel-engine emissions.
As a result, the Utah Department of Agriculture and Food is encouraging applicants to seek funding as soon as possible. The deadline is April 8.
The money is being made available for improvements to or replacement of diesel engines used in agricultural operations or in the transport of agricultural products. Priority may be given to projects in areas of higher air pollution.
Verified "idle reduction technologies" or auxiliary power units are eligible for up to 100 percent project funding; certified engine repowering projects are eligible for up to 75 percent funding; certified vehicle replacement projects are eligible for up to 25 percent funding.
Additional information and application forms are available at ag.utah.gov or call Bruce Richeson, 801-538-4931; Kathleen Clarke, 801-538-7107; or Mat Carlile, 801-536-4136.
