Salt Lake police were looking Monday for a man and woman who fired a shotgun at a downtown McDonald's drive-through window after getting into an argument with an employee over the menu.

About 2 a.m. Sunday, a vehicle with two people pulled into the drive-through at McDonald's, 210 W. 500 South. The woman who was driving wanted to order something off the lunch menu, but the female employee told her only breakfast was available, said Salt Lake police detective Dennis McGowan.

"There was a misunderstanding," he said. "They became upset with the responses from the clerk."

When the car drove around to the pick-up window, they were greeted by a male clerk. The male in the car got out and asked where the woman was who had taken their order. She came to the window and apologized for the misunderstanding, but the disagreement continued, McGowan said.

The male passenger then went to the trunk of the car and pulled out a sawed-off shotgun, at which point all of the employees ducked for cover, he said. The man fired at least one round, shattering the drive-through window and damaging one of the glass doors.

Investigators were checking Monday whether that couple was connected to a drive-by shooting Saturday about 5:45 p.m. near 1800 West and 400 North. A man sitting on his front porch suffered minor injuries after a man in the passenger seat of a car fired four to six shots at the man, McGowan said. The driver was a woman with a similar description as the woman in the McDonald's shooting.
