TAYLORSVILLE — Police are investigating two recent crimes they believe may be related.
Just after noon Saturday, officers got a call that an elderly gentleman had almost been robbed in his garage at the Majestic Oaks Condos at 4358 S. Atherton Drive in Taylorsville.
The man was in his garage when two young men approached him and tried to take his wallet, said detective Shannon Bennett.
A neighbor noticed the men and came over and threatened to call police, so the men left, Bennett said.
The man called police and was able to provide them with a license plate and a description of the men's car, which helped police bring in two people for questioning later Saturday evening, Bennett said.
The men's description matches that given Friday afternoon by a woman who said she was robbed at gunpoint after she visited an ATM.
She told police the men had followed her to an ATM, then followed her home and demanded money at gunpoint once she arrived at her home near 4600 S. 800 West.
In South Salt Lake, police are still looking for two black males who they believe robbed a young man at gunpoint Saturday morning.
The victim told police he was walking down 200 East near 3477 South when a car drove up alongside him and the driver asked for directions, said South Salt Lake Police Lt. Dwayne Ruth.
The passenger then pulled out a gun and demanded money, Ruth said. The passenger jumped out of the car and took the man's wallet, keys and cell phone from his pockets, Ruth said.
Police weren't able to get a vehicle make or model or a license plate.
