PLEASANT GROVE (AP) — The Pleasant Grove Planning Commission has unanimously approved plans for an urban fishery with a wading beach.
Commissioners voted unanimously for the plan, which expands usage of a man-made lake the city built last fall to supply water for landscape irrigation.
The lake will be stocked with rainbow trout and other fish by a state wildlife agency.
Many residents opposed the fishery. Robert Schow, a farmer who sold the city the land for the lake, sued over the project. Schow and others say the city has not been up-front about its public recreation plans.
Mayor Mike Daniels says the planning commission's decision is final.
For safety reasons, the city will build a fence on the lake's east side and around a play area for toddlers.
