Two Juggalos, or followers of the rap group Insane Clown Posse, were arrested Friday after a man was threatened with a knife outside East High School.
About 1 p.m., a group of four or five people were hanging out on the west side of the school, near 1200 East and 800 South, when a 19-year-old member of the group became upset at another 19-year-old walking on the sidewalk for an unknown reason, said Salt Lake police spokeswoman Lara Jones.
The Juggalo pulled out a knife and started chasing the man, she said. The victim was able to get someone to open a side door at East High School, which is usually locked during the day, get inside and get away, Jones said.
Police arrived and arrested Jonathan Davis for investigation of aggravated assaulted with a group enhancement for being with three or more people. A 15-year-old girl, also a Juggalo who was with Davis and left the area after getting on a UTA bus, was tracked down and arrested for investigation of trespassing.
The motive for the attack was unknown Friday. Neither the girl, Davis nor the victim were East High students, Jones said.
Police have classified Juggalos as a gang because of a continued pattern of criminal activity, although they also say about 70 percent of Juggalos are law-abiding citizens.
