Hyrum man accused of repeating sex crime
LOGAN — A man awaiting sentencing for inappropriately touching young girls has been arrested for doing essentially the same thing, police say.
The man was arrested in Hyrum, Cache County, after he touched the buttocks of a 10-year-old girl at the Logan Deseret Industries store, 175 W. 1400 North, said Logan Police Capt. Jeff Curtis.
William D. Hart, 42, was booked into jail for investigation of sex abuse of a child, Curtis said.
Last month, Hart pleaded guilty to inappropriately touching two young girls after a Dec. 13 concert in Logan. As a result of that incident, Hart was ordered to "have no unsupervised contact with minor children" and was scheduled to be sentenced March 30. Bail in the case had been set at $22,000.
"In working with the Cache County Attorney's Office," Curtis said, "I think they did what they could to keep him off the streets, but he was unfortunately able to get out of jail. This time, after the mother (of the victim) called 911 with a description of him, our investigators were familiar with him. They knew where he lived and were able to locate and arrest him without incident."
Hart, whose name has been listed on the Utah Sex Offender Registry since 1990, has several previous convictions, including a 1988 lewdness charge and three indictments involving lewdness with a child.
